Brick colonial after the June hail

Golf-ball hail cracked most of a twelve-year-old roof. Claim approved in full; new shingles and copper gutters in one day.

The Hendersons called the morning after the June 14 storm. Their gutters were dented and a neighbour had already found shingle grit in the downspouts.

What we found

  • Forty-one hail hits on the west slope alone, each circled and photographed
  • Cracked ridge caps and a split pipe boot over the kitchen
  • Two soft sheets of decking under the old valley

What we built

We met the adjuster on the roof on day four and the claim was approved in full. On build day the crew tore off to the deck, replaced the soft decking, and laid Class 4 impact-rated shingles, which also lowered the family's premium.

The copper gutters were the owners' own upgrade. The yard was swept with a magnet twice before we left.
