What Google Analytics tells a small business.

  1. What visitors actually do

    Which pages get read, how long people stay, and where they leave. The answers tell you what to improve next.

How to connect it.

  1. Copy your Measurement ID Sign in to Google Analytics, open your property, and copy the ID that looks like G-XXXXXXXXXX, or copy the whole tag snippet.
  2. Paste it on your Plugins page Open Plugins from your website's page on the dashboard, choose Google Analytics, paste, and save.
  3. That is it Tracking starts on your dev site and your live domain immediately. Clear the field and save whenever you want to disconnect.

Good to know

  • Your dev site is tracked too. Exclude your own traffic in Google Analytics, or use its debug view.
  • With the cookie banner switched on, analytics stays inert until a visitor accepts.
  • Disconnecting stops the code from the next request onward. Your pages never contained it.

Read every answer
Do I need to paste code into my pages?

No. Paste the Measurement ID, or the whole snippet from Google, on the Plugins page. The code is added as your pages are served and is never written into them.

Do I have to republish after connecting?

No. Plugins take effect immediately on your dev site and your live domain, so there is nothing to publish.

Does it work with the cookie banner?

Yes. When the banner is on, Google Analytics is added to the page inert and only runs once a visitor accepts.
